Hanabi is a lightweight, cooperative card game with a number of interesting features. You are on a team of fireworks experts tasked with quickly putting together a colorful "Hanabi" performance. This is achieved by laying out sets of five cards in each of five colored suits, in order. Complicating things is the fact that you cannot read your own hand; you can only see the hands of your teammates. So this is a game of constrained information sharing, in which every turn counts and every word exchanged is meaningful.

Hanabi is unlike anything you've ever played. It's quick to learn, easy to carry, and a unique challenge for a group of friends in attention, memory, and teamwork. It won the Spiel des Jahres in 2013, the most prestigious design award in the tabletop gaming world. Buy it here if you'd like to help support the This Game newsletter.
